Dallas Bonsai Society hosts Pedro Morales

Well-known Bonsai artist, Pedro Morales, gave a demonstration at North Haven Gardens on June 20th to the Dallas Bonsai Society.  Pedro Morales is internationally known and has studied in Japan.  He hails from Puerto Rico and has been prominent in the bonsai world for many years.

I am proud that he worked on a tree purchased from Bent Tree Bonsai.  The tree is a honeysuckle that is 35 years old and had been in my nursery for the last 5 years.

Pedro explained that the honeysuckle is actually a vine and takes a long time to actually grow to this size.

The honeysuckle tree has a double trunk and Pedro starts to cut down one of the trunks.

Howard helps Pedro with the cutting of the tree.

Pedro continues to cut the other trunk, removing most of the foliage.

Having put a representation of what the tree will look like on the easel, Pedro now begins to wire.  He hopes to turn this small branch into a third trunk.

This is the front of the tree.  Pedro says the tree will develop foliage over the summer.  In a couple of years, it will be repotted into a bonsai container.  The tree will be auctioned off in October of this year.  This concluded Pedro's demonstration.

This is all for now.
