After back 2 back snow falls & now rain

After 2 back to back snow falls & now 2 days of rain
I'm ready for spring & summer to begin !!!!!!

The first snow fall was mostly ice & snow

Most of the ice was underneath  the snow

4 days later we had almost 4 inches of snow

                  Which really covered my bonsai

A few days later against my better judgment we went to
dig some more trees... there were patches of snow still
around

After we dug up the trees  we set them up by the railroad
tracks notice the absence snow. we had trouble digging because
the ground was so wet because of the snow.

I potted up my tree it is called a Bois d'arc / Bodark /Osage orange
take your choice it has other names

I trimmed it up & wired it.   we had tried to
dig up up other trees but we decided to wait for it
to dry up but now its raining !!!! So we have to
wait a few more days but its March collecting
time should be over?

Ice storm & now were expecting snow on top of that!!!

My trees were thinking it was spring with this semi-warm weather
so I went & collected some trees & we get an ice storm & now we
get some snow on top of that oh well hopefully the trees will
survive?

This juniper was pictured in my last post
it looks dead but it had some life to it.
I took pity on it decided to try & save it

As you can see  there is some foliage on the
branches & there is a small bud on the trunk
 only time will tell ?

I can always tell if someone has been there
collecting before me by the gaping hole left
there. Common courtesy to the land owner
dictates that you should cover the hole.

This juniper caught my eye as a possible
literati style

         So I dug it up

At home in the back of my truck,
with a pot  I trimmed up the root ball

Here it is all potted up & wired I still
have to do some more trimming but that can wait.

This is another juniper that was
nearby so I dug it up also

It will need some more top pruning

This is all for now I will post some more pics of trees I've
dug up & pics of the ice & snow!!!

Jason : Ficus Bonsai

Jason recently bought a ficus from me & he asked for written description on how
to care for it, here it is  :
Ficus bonsai are suited for indoor bonsai.
They can be kept indoors all year long. They can
also be kept out doors except for when the
temperature falls below 50 degrees. Then they must
be brought back indoors.

Light:
Ficus bonsai can be grown indoors in direct
or indirect sunlight. Morning sun is best if you can keep
your bonsai in sunlight from 8 am. to 12 noon it will be
sufficient. If not you can use a supplemental  lighting
source such as a grow lamp.

Watering:

Feel the soil every day by sticking your finger
about an inch deep into the soil. If it feels dry then water
your bonsai. If it feels damp or wet then don't water ,
wait until it feels dry then water it.
Do not let your bonsai go totally dry for
extended periods.
You can water by setting your bonsai in a
sink or container with water up to the lip of your pot
for about 10 min. then allow it to drain out.

Fertilizer:

I feed my bonsai with osmocoat. These
pellets can last for up 3 to 4 months. I use a liquid
fertilizer once a month.   I also use worm castings
in my soil as a natural fertilizer.

Re-potting:

Ficus can be re-potted  about every 2 to 3
years. You can re-pot in the spring but I prefer to re-pot
in the heat of the summer May thru June.
I trim the root ball & the foliage also about the
same amount. Replace the soil, then water & set the bonsai
in a shady location for about 2 weeks

Pruning:
Can be done any time of the year if your bonsai
is healthy. Remember to remove anything growing straight
up or straight down. Trim your branch structure & trim
your foliage pads.

               Good luck!!!!

My camera is still broke guess I'll have to
buy a new one !!!    I'll post some pictures then.

  That's all for now.
