Hectic time at the nursery

We have been busy the last couple of months ,what with collecting trees and getting them potted up. Then we set up the shade cloth /set up the benches /empty out the greenhouse / now we are clipping & re potting like crazy.
I couldn't have done it with out the help of good friends like "Se"/ Jason / Mr. "B"/ and Jacob !!! Thanks guys I really appreciate it!!!

These maples were dug up from my raised bed along with nine others.....by Se & myself.

We set up kind of an assembly line /bare rooting /cutting the roots /& then potting them in containers.

These eleven trees were the result of our days effort..Thank you "Se"!

This is a pink rhododendron straight out of the green house.

UPDATE

POMEGRANATE & AZALEA

After being trapped in my collapsed cold frame I rescued them & they
were re potted.

After bare rooting this pomegranate & cutting the
tap root .

It was potted up in my soil mix using a
Styrofoam box. This was done Feb /20/2010.

Now about six & a half weeks later it has
put out new shoots & leafed out. Will keep you
posted on its progress & future development.

This Azalea went through some radical
root pruning and through some pretty heavy
top pruning at the same time.

It was potted up in my soil mix along with
some peat moss and watered with rain water.

It has flowered put out new shoots and
leaves but most importantly it has shown signs
of new roots!

Typically hybrid Azalea's tend to put out
blooms with two colors in this case white & red
and the occasional solid red bloom.
I will keep posting on its development.

Texas Red Oak

Monday 3/22/2010

This was an 18 to 20 ft. red oak that I decided to dig up this yr. instead of next yr. The buds were starting break open so I chopped the top off & got the root ball out. This is what it looked like after I bare rooted it.

This is what remained after I cleaned it up, with most of the tap root intact.

This is the view from opposite side, it has a nice curve & about a 4" trunk at the base.

This is where I cut off the rest of the tap root from the bottom of the root mass.

Then I sat the tree in a tub of water to soak while I prepared a Styrofoam box to put it in.

After a few more cuts to the roots so it would fit in the box ,I filled it in with my bonsai soil mix.
So now I'll have to wait & see what develops. I will probably have to grow new branches from scratch provided it survives.
Updates on it's progress, I hope!
