Ft.Worth show &sale

   Ft.Worth's show and sale is this week end June 9 th & 10 th ,Saturday from  9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to to 5:00 p.m. at the botanical gardens on university dr.
   Will feature trees from the Ft.Worth bonsai club membership & also three vendors will be in attendance.
I will have pictures of the event after this week end.....see you there!!!!!!

Dallas State Bonsai Convention 2012

     I would have posted this earlier but when you have a # 1 side kick who is 3 yrs. old.
Isabella has a knack for hiding shiny objects she likes.She hid my camera.....it took me a
while to find it but better late than never!!!

club. Many trees were auctioned
off.






















The biggest money winner was
Ryan Neil's juniper the highest bid
was for $1000.00 this is the
finished tree.































All in all it was a great convention & a good time was had by all
Thanks to the convention staff & the hotel staff for all their help!!!
     I'll post pictures of trees and pots I picked up at the convention in the
next couple of days.

One week left untill Dallas bonsai convention

I've been so busy getting ready for the Dallas bonsai convention that I have posted
any thing!!!!
Here's some of the things I've been working on for the convention






These are sisyrinchium bellum other wise commonly known
as "blue eyed grass" and they make beautiful accent plants
























This is a Jacqueline Hillier dwarf elm in need

COUNT DOWN TO DALLAS BONSAI CONVENTION

We are about 3 weeks away from the Dallas Bonsai State Convention. It will be held at
the Sheraton Dallas North Hotel located on hwy 635 & Dallas North Tollway.
Dates are April 27th-29th.
About the club: The Bonsai Society of Texas was founded in Dallas in 1965 and was
the first of it's kind in the state. Soon after additional clubs started in other Texas cities
and we became known as the Bonsai Society of Dallas. We would like to welcome all who
have an interest in the art of bonsai. We have regular monthly meeting plus hands on
workshops throughout the year. Our monthly meetings occur the first Saturday of the
month, 9:00 to noon at North Haven Gardens 7700 Northaven road Dallas,Tx. 75230
to become a member there are annual membership dues of $25.00 per year.
Membership includes a monthly program, monthly newsletter, and other events
available exclusively to members.
About the convention: The convention is co-sponsored by the Lone Star Bonsai
Federation , an association of bonsai clubs in Texas. This event rotates to each city
annually so it happens only once every five years in Dallas. Invited are three well
known bonsai artists who have each received extensive training in Japan. The three
artists are Kathy Shaner, Michael Hagedorn,& Ryan Neil. They will be conducting a
variety of workshops,demonstrations & lectures.
The convention will also feature a bonsai exhibit & raffles & many bonsai vendors
so come on out join in the fun!!!

update on collected ash tree

This ash tree was collected last Oct 30,2011.All the leaves were cut off when we
removed the two major branches & it's been dormant since then.




It has a magnificent trunk that has been
broken in half by an other tree that fell on it


















we found it by the bank of an old creek bed.
most of the roots were hanging in the air
above the creek & we figured it wouldn't
survive much longer.























So we dug it up




















It had a large tap root & like I said
most of the roots were hanging in the
air so we wound up bare rooting it.
















We did some root cutting to fit the container
then potted it in bonsai soil



















Estimated to be about 30 to 35 yrs. old





















Jacob & James helped dig up this
tree & we are still waiting for it to show
some sign of life. we'll keep you posted

collected Honeysuckle

The past couple weeks I've collected some white honey suckle. One from my
back yard & one from the wild.





















This one is on the fence line in my back yard




















I dug & cut some of the roots up



















Then I covered the shrub back up


















Then two weeks later I cut the top off & cut off some more roots

















Then I waited a week & dug it up

















After trimming & some more root pruning






















It was potted up & here's where it will have a chance to recover.
Next year I will make some preliminary cuts & see what develops.


















This is another honey suckle collected from the wild
I did not have my camera with me so I can't show where it came
from.




















It was dug up from a near by creek bed
















The roots the top were trimmed





















Then it was potted up it has a very nice trunk
and good nebari.
